Plucked off the Net: It began as
a self-published e-book, but this January, The Sharp Edge of Love, by Galen, will be released as an alternate selection
of The Venus Book Club, a division of Book Span.
This is only the second time a major book club has plucked a self-published novel off the Net.
Without attempting to get a traditional deal first, Galen released the e-book in January 2000 and a print-on-demand
version in July. With the taboo nature of the erotic book, Galen believed he had a better chance launching it himself.
Over the last few months, The Sharp Edge of Love has gotten serious online buzz and been reviewed by a number of
influential critics and publications.
In addition to promoting the book on the back cover of the catalog, Venus is also running an author interview to
go along with the listing. "I felt validated that my point of view and writing talent met their standards,"
Galen said. Erika Tsang, editor at The Doubleday Book Club and The Venus Book Club, said she first became aware
of the book from a review on noted sexpert Susie Bright's website.

To be unaffected by The
Sharp Edge of Love is not to be human. With great compassion and insight, Galen
bravely takes readers into the psyches four different submissive women, absorbing their motivations and flowing
with their process of self-discovery. We learn that submissiveness is not about self-loathing or a need for punishment,
but rather about the search for tenderness and the pride of pushing one's boundaries of fear. The raw, soul-to-soul

Although this book is classed as erotica, it is more than full-on
"hot stuff" cover to cover. There are several thought provoking, moisture making, and fun short stories,
and a number of the emails are pretty erotic as well, especially in the closing pages of the book. What distinguishes
this work though, are pages of the author's thoughts and feelings, (and the turbulence of being unceremoniously
outed by his ex-wife) These passages are deep and full of emotion. Galen allows us deeper inside his thoughts that
one might expect of a book of this sort, showing the way real life intervenes on fantasies and how the past has
to be sorted before one can move on. It also shows the importance of communicating feelings; of letting your partner
know what's going on in your life that may affect the way you respond to them or behave toward them, in order to
prevent misunderstandings. The Sharp Edge
of Love make for steamy reading, even more so because you know that there were
real people behind them. The truth is, after all, always more interesting than fiction.

In many ways, Galen's experiences are a very real look
at het relationships and the online world, where reality and fantasy often blur. They're also an honest portrayal
of online courting, from exploratory emails to the exchange of erotica stories, which heterosexual people have

and in real life, the most compelling aspect of the book.

Galen's most passionate encounter is with Arlana, who called herself
a "tiger", after her Chinese astrological sign. Although she has chosen the submissive path, this woman
is no wimp! Indeed, with her intelligence and lively personality, she poses quite a challenge to anyone who would
want to tame her. But for pure story, in the vein of truth being stranger than fiction, the mysterious "sharah"
is by far the best part of the book. Who is this mystery woman - in fact, does she even exist? This was the episode
that I could not put down, and since it's the first one, it serves to successfully hook the reader into reading
the rest of the book. If you crave a sexy, true-life account of a dominant man and his loves, you'll find plenty
of satisfaction in The Sharp Edge of Love. Galen himself comes across as strong, sexy, and believe me, he knows what he wants. Yet he is also
wise and dare I say, sensitive (which, in my humble opinion, is an essential quality in a true Dom).
